Privacy Notice

Jan Peter Wiersma ("I", "me") runs janpeter.wiersma.me (the "Website") as a personal portfolio, and is responsible for the personal data described in this notice. You can reach me any time at janpeter@wiersma.me.

I use Umami, a privacy-friendly analytics tool hosted at umami.madonie.net, to understand how the Website is used. Umami records:

• Pages visited and referring websites
• Device type, browser and operating system
• Approximate location (country or region)
• Anonymous interactions, such as clicks on social links, switching between light and dark mode, and whether the contact form was sent

Umami does not use cookies, does not store your IP address and does not track you across other websites. I only see aggregated statistics. If you prefer not to be counted at all, any common content blocker will stop the analytics script, and the Website keeps working as normal.

When you use the contact form, the name, email address and message you enter are sent to Formspree (Formspree, Inc., United States). Formspree delivers your message to my inbox and keeps a copy in my Formspree account. To filter spam it may also process technical data such as your IP address. Because Formspree is based in the United States, your message is processed there. You can read how Formspree handles data in its privacy policy.

I use your details only to reply to your message and for any follow-up you ask for. I never add you to a mailing list.

If you email or call me, I use your contact details and what you tell me only to respond to your inquiry. I don't share, sell or distribute them to anyone else.

The Website runs on a server in Germany (EU) provided by Hetzner Online GmbH. When you visit, your browser automatically sends technical data, such as your IP address, browser type and the page requested. The server needs this data to deliver the page, and may keep it briefly in technical logs for security and troubleshooting. I don't use these logs for analytics or to identify visitors.

• No tracking or advertising cookies.
• Technical cookies: the software behind the Website sets two strictly necessary cookies, a session cookie and a security token that protects against forged requests. They contain no personal information and expire after two hours.
• Theme preference: if you switch between light and dark mode, your choice is saved in your browser's local storage. It stays on your device and is never sent to me.

The Website's typefaces are loaded from Google Fonts. To deliver them, Google receives your IP address and basic browser information. Google's privacy policy applies to this.

The Website links to other websites, such as my LinkedIn and X profiles. Once you follow such a link, the privacy policy of that website applies. I'm not responsible for how they handle your data.

• Contact messages: only as long as needed to handle your inquiry and any follow-up, after which I delete them from my inbox and Formspree.
• Analytics: only anonymous, aggregated statistics are kept.
• Server logs: kept briefly for security and troubleshooting, then removed.

Under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) you have the right to:

• Access the personal data I hold about you
• Have incorrect data corrected
• Have your data deleted
• Restrict or object to how I use your data
• Receive your data in a portable format

To use any of these rights, just email me. If you're not satisfied with how I handle your data, you can file a complaint with the Dutch Data Protection Authority, the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens.

The Website is not directed at children under 16, and I don't knowingly collect personal data from them.

I may update this notice when the Website changes. The date at the top of this page always shows the latest revision.
